Clinical Staff

The Cornell University Law School Immigration Appellate Law and Advocacy Clinic is directed by two law school faculty members who, with support from the Clinic’s administrative assistant, supervise student work and provide classroom instruction. You are encouraged to contact any member of the clinical team with questions about the program.

Sital Kalantry, Co-Director

Professor Kalantry is Director of the International Human Rights Clinic and Co-Director of the Immigration Appellate Law and Advocacy Clinic. Before joining Cornell University Law School she was a visiting clinical lecturer at Yale Law School, where she co-taught a Human Rights Clinic focusing on national security and civil liberties. She has supervised students in a wide array of projects, including writing an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of Madeline Albright, representing Muslim Americans alleging border discrimination, creating a methodology for a study on behalf of Women for Women International to assess international women's human rights in several post-conflict countries, drafting a report on arbitrary detention standards for Human Rights Watch, filing briefs on behalf of non-U.S. citizens seeking relief pursuant to the Convention Against Torture, and advocating legislative reform in Pakistan. She received a J.D. from University of Pennsylvania Law School, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and a B.A. from Cornell University. Stephen Yale-Loehr, Co-Director

Professor Yale-Loehr is one of the nation's preeminent authorities on U.S. immigration and asylum law. A prolific scholar, he has written many law review articles, and is author or co-author of four standard reference works. He is of counsel to the Ithaca law firm of Miller Mayer, where he practices immigration law. In addition to co-directing the  Immigration Appellate Law and Advocacy Clinic each spring he teaches an immigration seminar every fall at the law school. He is the 2001 recipient of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA)'s Elmer Fried Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 2004 recipient of AILA's Edith Lowenstein Award for excellence in advancing the practice of immigration law. Janice Rose, Administrative Assistant

Janice is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated with a B.A. in English, French, and Secondary Education from Kent State University in 1968. For 16 years, she was a Program Director and Chapter Manager for the American Red Cross. She has also worked as a high school teacher, Team Travel Coordinator for Cornell Athletics, and presently serves as Administrative Assistant to several faculty at the law school. In addition to her responsibilities at Cornell, Janice also teaches several Yoga and meditation classes.
