What is the Master of Laws (LLM) in Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship?
Applying the rigorous standards of Cornell Law School, the Master of Laws at Cornell Tech will give you the skills and knowledge necessary to become a successful attorney in technology and entrepreneurship. You'll learn the legal and business considerations applicable to technologists and entrepreneurs, as well as the public policy and legal frameworks that promote or limit innovation. Upon graduation you'll be prepared to be a central part of a team of technologists, entrepreneurs, business managers, fellow lawyers and other professionals throughout the technology world.
The Law Tech program is an integral part of the new academic model at Cornell Tech, where education and research are closely tied to creating and expanding companies and industries. As a student, you'll have unique collaboration opportunities on campus, as well as with New York-based companies in the tech industry.
What will I study?
The immersive and empowering Startup Studio and Company Challenges programs form a foundation for the Law Tech experience. Building upon rigorous coursework, you will work within project teams that focus on solving obstacles that exist in present-day technology. In particular, you'll provide legal support to the team projects under the supervision of an experienced professional.
The cross-disciplinary Law Tech curriculum encompasses the legal principles and practical business applications that relate to entrepreneurship, early-stage enterprise and established businesses in tech. With two semesters of full-time study, Law Tech students will take in-depth courses in core subjects such as structuring deals, intellectual property, raising capital and employment law. Law Tech students (under practitioner supervision) will also provide legal support to actual tech startup projects by faculty, staff and students at Cornell.
