Am I required to purchase health insurance from Cornell University?
Beginning with the 2014–2015 academic year, all international students are required to purchase the Cornell University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). The university implemented this new requirement to assure that the health and education of every international student at Cornell is protected by appropriate insurance coverage. The insurance charge for the year will be automatically be included on your Bursar bill. Students studying for only half the year will be charged one-half of the insurance amount.
Exceptions to the insurance requirement will be granted only in very few circumstances. International students who are covered by a U.S.-based, employer-sponsored, group health plan may contact the Office of Student Health Insurance for additional information.
