Sujata Gibson is an associate at Schlather, Stumbar, Parks & Salk, LLP. Her practice revolves around matrimonial and family law, civil litigation and criminal defense.
Sujata has been practicing in state and federal courts for almost a decade. She began her career as an Associate at the D.C. office of the international law firm Crowell & Moring, LLP, where she specialized in fraud investigation, government contracts and civil and criminal litigation. Moving back to Ithaca in 2011, she began a small solo practice, associating "of counsel" with a number of area firms. In 2015, she expanded her practice into The Gibson Law Firm, and won "Best Law Firm in Ithaca" in her firm's first year in business.
Serving as the lead attorney on the mass defense of the "We Are Seneca Lake" protest defendants, Sujata has successfully fought for and helped win over 300 dismissals against protest defendants to date. She continues to prevail in the ongoing cases at trial and on motions.
Sujata is immediate past president of the Finger Lakes Women's Bar Association, former member of the executive board of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York, and has served as teaching faculty on the New York State Bar Association Annual Trial Academy. She periodically lectures on areas of expertise such as parental alienation and domestic violence, fraud investigation and civil rights. Sujata has served on many not-for-profit boards, including recently as Secretary of the Board at the Alternatives Federal Credit Union and advisory counsel to the Youth Farm Project.
Before going to law school, Sujata had a career as a lead organizer for the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees and led successful union campaigns across North America.
