Université Paris I--Panthéon-Sorbonne
Paris, France

Paris I is the partner school for one of Cornell Law School’s four-year joint degree programs, the J.D./Master en droit. There also is an informal understanding with the law faculty unit that hosts the joint degree (UFR 07--Etudes Internationales, Européennes et Comparatives), whereby Cornell students can participate in a semester exchange. Students must understand, however, that this exchange is less structured than others, because Paris I does not have a formal program for such exchanges. As a result, there is very little administrative support for students in Paris. Interested persons should contact the Executive Director of the Clarke Center for International and Comparative Legal Studies.

Language of Instruction:
French

Location:
The law faculty of Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne is located in the Fifth Arrondisement, in the heart of the Latin Quarter.

Academic Calendar:

The 2008–2009 calendar is as follows:

First Semester (13 Weeks)
Classes: 6 Oct. 2008 to 17 Jan. 2009;  Exams: 19  Jan. to 7 Feb.  2009

Second Semester (13 Weeks)
Classes: 9 Feb. to 23 May 2009; Exams: 25 May to 11 June 2003

Students planning to attend the First Semester would have to be prepared to make individual arrangements for early examinations directly with their Paris I instructors, in order to be back in Ithaca for the start of the Spring semester.  Students participating in the Second Semester likely would have similar concerns in connection with clerking commitments or bar review. These arrangements cannot be made on the student’s behalf by Cornell administrators. Sample Courses: Because this is an informal exchange, individual arrangements for coursework must be made by each Cornell student.

It might also be possible to select courses from the “maîtrise” curriculum.
