Study Areas

The Law Library has a wide array of study areas to meet the varying needs of our students. Most are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, some carrels are available for reserve by law students doing extended research.

GOULD READING ROOM

The Reading Room, the hub of the Library, is a popular study area for students. Wireless Internet service is available throughout. The Circulation and Research Desks are also located here.

CARRELS

All carrels in the Law Library, with the exception of those located on the second floor, may be reserved by law students for one semester periods. Please review our carrel reservation policy.

Carrels located on the second floor are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  They may not be reserved and are cleared each morning.  Library materials are reshelved, and personal items are placed in Lost & Found at the Circulation Desk.

Use of carrels is restricted to law students.  All others seeking a place to study are welcome to visit our Reading Room on the third floor.

Carrels

No food is allowed in the carrels.  An eating area is located on the third floor directly outside the Reading Room.  Drinks in spill-proof containers are allowed throughout the library.

CASUAL READING ROOM

The Casual Reading Room is accessed via the stairs located at the east end of the Reading Room. This room is excellent for group study and enjoying views of Cornell, Ithaca, and Cayuga Lake.

STUDY ROOMS

Rooms G80, G81, 273, 387, 389, and the Casual Reading Room may be used for group study. While classes are in session, these rooms are available by reservation at the circulation desk after Noon. During finals and study periods, the rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Law Library offers two additional study rooms on the East side of the fourth floor.  These rooms may also be reserved at the circulation desk.

The study room located on the west side of the fourth floor is reserved for JSD students.

Please refer to the Study Room Policy. Library materials left in the rooms overnight are reshelved, and personal items are placed in Lost & Found at the Circulation Desk.
