Takayuki Kihira, LL.M 2006, Partner Mori, Hamada & Matsumoto (Tokyo) “Recent M&A Trends in Japan - With a Particular Focus on SoftBank’s Acquisition of Sprint Nextel” Takayuki Kihira is a Cornell Law graduate and is currently a partner with the Japanese law firm of Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, a sponsor of the Clarke Program. Mori Hamada & Matsumoto is one of the few full-service international law firms based in Tokyo, with approximately 320 attorneys. Last year, the firm was the top-ranked legal adviser on mergers and acquisitions in Japan in the M&A league table published by Thomson Reuters. Mr. Kihira’s areas of practice include mergers and acquisitions, general corporate matters and dispute resolution. In particular, he has extensive experience in cross-border M&A transactions. Mr. Kihira will introduce recent M&A trends in Japan, with a particular focus on the recently completed acquisition of Sprint Nextel by Japan’s SoftBank, a USD21.6 billion mega deal involving many interesting legal issues including a counter-bid by Dish Network, the CFIUS approval and other regulatory issues. Refreshments will be served. RSVP to dkh25@cornell.edu
