Cornell Law School: Its Present and its Future
Stewart J. Schwab, the Allan R. Tessler Dean and Professor of Law
Stewart J. Schwab has used his advanced training in economics to inform his scholarship and teaching in the field of labor and employment law as well as tort and contract law. After obtaining both a J.D. and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan, he clerked for the Hon. J. Dickson Phillips of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and then for Justice Sandra Day O'Connor of the U.S. Supreme Court. He joined the Cornell Law School faculty in 1983 and was appointed as The Allan R. Tessler Dean of Cornell Law School on January 1, 2004. In his time at Cornell, Dean Schwab has examined issues in labor and employment law through empirical analysis, as well as from comparative and law and economics perspectives. He is currently a Reporter for the American Law Institute's Restatement of Employment Law.
