Student Orientation Schedule

Welcome to Cornell Law School!

Our Orientation Program takes place on Monday, August 26, and Tuesday, August 27. As this program is mandatory for all new students, you must arrive at Cornell by the morning of Monday, August 26. Classes begin on Wednesday, August 28.

Once classes begin, important programs and events for new students will continue throughout the months of August and September. A list of these events can be found below. To view a PDF of the schedule, please click here.

Registration for All New Students

Your First Assignments, Small Section Meeting and Your “Flex”

First-year class section lists, first class assign­ments and room assignments for Tuesday’s small section meetings are posted in the glass-enclosed bulletin board across from the Saperston Student Lounge in Myron Taylor Hall on the ground level.

Check out the bulletin board, and then proceed down the hall to your right. Every student has an individual mail folder (we call them “Flexes”) located on the left side of the hallway past the staircase. Locate your Flex.

Report to the Foyer.

To minimize lines, we ask that you arrive in the Foyer according to the following schedule:

A – H  9:00 - 9:30
I – P 10:00 - 10:30
Q – Z 11:00 - 11:30

In addition to checking you in, we will take your picture for our law school directory. Note: Your picture will be available to all faculty and administrators and will later be available to employers who visit the law school. No need to dress up but please dress accordingly—no hats, t-shirts, etc.

University Registration

Once you have completed law school regis­tration, proceed immediately to the Berger Atrium. Staff will be on hand to formally register you as a Cornell University student. Your course schedule, ID cards, book and coat locker assignments will be available.

Deans’ Welcoming Speeches Grab & Go Box Lunches

Dean Schwab, Vice Dean Holden-Smith and Associate Deans Geiger, Lukingbeal and Underkuffler will officially welcome you to Cornell Law School! Immediately following their remarks, please pick up your box lunch in the ground floor hallway in Myron Taylor Hall and proceed to one of the many beautiful lunch areas in and around Myron Taylor Hall.

Please arrive a few minutes before your tour.

At the conclusion of the Law School tour, please proceed to the Library Open House hosted by Associate Dean Femi Cadmus, Edward Cornell Law Librarian, and her staff.

Library resources and services will be featured, including:

  • The Reference Desk and Research Assistance in the Library
  • Research Taught in Lawyering
  • Lexis, Westlaw and Bloomberg Passwords
  • Where and How to Check Out Books and Reserve Materials
  • Cool Stuff to Borrow at the Circulation Desk
  • Rare Books Display
  • Borrow Direct and Interlibrary Loan Services
  • After Hours Access
  • Designated Eating Area
