Professional Biography

Erlend Gjein is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Private Law within the Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo. Prior to joining the University of Oslo, Mr. Gjein worked as an associate and senior associate lawyer for the Norwegian law firm Selmer, where he primarily practiced corporate and company law with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Gjein worked mainly with private equity funds in connection with their portfolio investments, as well as for companies within the trade and industry sectors. Mr. Gjein received a Master of Law degree from the University of Oslo and following graduation, served as a legal advisor to the Inspector General of the Army and the Army Staff in the Norwegian Armed Forces. He was awarded the Fulbright Fellowship for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Focus of Study

The use and regulation of share classes in Norwegian and foreign law. The focus of the research is a regulatory analysis of the Norwegian legislation concerning the use of multiple share classes in limited liability companies, as well as a review of the impact of the use of share classes under Norwegian law. The research is mainly focused on company law and corporate governance, as well as securities regulations and comparative law.
