UN Commission on the Status of Women Side Event, "Custodial Violence Against Women"

On March 13, 2013, Avon Global Center Executive Director Elizabeth Brundige participated in a United Nations Commission on the Status of Women side event on "Custodial Violence Against Women" convened by Rashida Manjoo, Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The panel event included a discussion of the Avon Global Center's recent study on women in prison in Argentina and other work on the causes, conditions, and consequences of women's imprisonment globally. The Avon Global Center's work in this area shows that violence against women is frequently a cause of women's incarceration, and that more work must be done to address this link.
