Conferences and Events

The Avon Global Center hosts an annual conference and other events for judges, legal professionals, scholars, and advocates. These events are an opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices for securing justice for survivors of gender-based violence. 

The Center's Women and Justice Conferences are attended by distinguished judges and other stakeholders from around the world. Conference topics have included: state responsibility for eliminating violence against women; sexual violence against girls in Africa; etc. This year's Women and Justice Conference on "Women, Prison, and Gender-Based Violence" was held in Washington, D.C., on April 14-15, 2015. The Center also organizes and participates in many other events and initiatives relating to gender justice, including hosting several international delegations of prominent women leaders through the U.S. Department of State International Visitors Leadership Program on Women and Justice. Other recent events have addresses diverse topics such as disability and gender rights in Ethiopia, violence against Native women in the United States, child marriage in Bangladesh, and education and women's empowerment in Bhutan.
