The Lightening Testimonies
On April 2, 2012, the Center hosted a film screening of Lightening Testimonies, a documentary by Indian filmmaker Amar Kanwar. The film, which was screened at Cornell Law School in Ithaca, NY, addressed the history of conflict on the Indian subcontinent through women’s experiences of sexual violence. Through the women’s stories, the film explores how such violence is recorded, remembered, and resisted by individuals and communities. The film screening was followed by a discussion led by the Center’s Women & Justice Fellow and special guest Udisha Saklani, a women’s rights advocate from India and program associate at Kriti Team, an Indian development organization that focuses on the empowerment of women.
