Professional Biography

Marcin Menkes is an Associate Professor at Warsaw School of Economics. He founded and serves as the Head of Postgraduates programmes in law & economics of the securities market and law & economics for in-house counsels. He is a founder and the managing editor of International Law Review. 

Marcin earned his Master of Laws from University of Warsaw/ Aix-en-Provence (2008) and PhD (2011) and dr habil. (2018) from Jagiellonian University. 

His main research interests are international investment and financial law, international economic governance, sovereign immunities, law & economics. Marcin is an author of monographies on Economic Sanctions in Public International Law, and International Law Study of Economic Governance, as well as comparative commentary to the UN Convention on Jurisdictional Immunities of States and Their Property and the European Convention on State Immunity. He co-authored the first Polish Handbook of International Economic Law. His journal articles include The Legality of the EU Trade Sanctions Imposed on the Russian Federation under WTO Law, Hybrid Recognition of Monetary and Financial Sovereignty: Or Is It? and Requiem for Transparency in International Investment Treaties. 

Marcin was a visiting lecturer at Università di Bologna (2017), LIUC Università Cattaneo (2017), Università degli Studi di Firenze (2018), and a visiting researcher at Università di Torino (2018). He was a lecturer at the Haim Striks School of Law summer school (2017). 

Marcin is a member of Warsaw Bar.
