The New York Times reported in January 2009 that Leonard J. Connolly, LL.B.'63 had died suddenly at age 71. Mr. Connolly was a career corporate lawyer, most recently with Dechert, LLP, and after retiring from practice was an adjunct professor of law at Hofstra Law School. He also served as Village Justice for the Village of Lattingtown, NY, where he lived with his wife, Janet. Mr. Connolly enjoyed ice dancing, tennis, and rollerblading, all of which he pursued until a few years ago, and had a lifelong love of reading, writing, and politics. He is survived by his wife, Janet Connolly (née Maroney); daughters, Deirdre, Ursula, Janet, Annie, and their respective spouses; and grandchildren William, Nina, Wilson, Blair, Dylan, Oliver, Angus, Graham, and Marina.

Martin E. Greenblatt JD '63, having retired in 2003 from the practice of law in Boston to move to Los Angeles for family reasons, recently graduated from the Los Angeles Police Academy and currently works (pro bono)at LAPD's Pacific Division as a case-carrying detective, specializing in the investigation of complex financial crimes, particularly financial elder abuse.

The Hon. Stephen G. Crane BS '60, JD '63, retired from the bench after 27 years to begin a new professional challenge as a neutral through JAMS. At JAMS, Judge Crane assists ''the resolution of disputes through mediation or arbitration and in evaluating legal presentations through mock hearings and moot appellate arguments.'' He describes the retired judges and lawyers working at JAMS as ''among the most dedicated professionals and … the highest quality of neutrals available,'' and himself as ''energized'' by the opportunity to join them.

The American Bar Association's tort trial and insurance practice section announced in June that Marc S. Moller AB '61, JD '63, will receive the Pursuit of Justice Award at the ABA's 2008 annual meeting in New York City, in August. The Pursuit of Justice Award ''recognizes lawyers and judges who have shown outstanding merit and excelled at ensuring access to justice.'' Mr. Moller, a partner at the New York firm of Kreindler & Kreindler LLP, has been plaintiffs' attorney in cases of aviation accidents, mass disasters, and other matters of wrongful death and personal injury. He is plaintiffs' liaison counsel in tort litigation precipitated by the 9/11 attacks, and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Facing mandatory retirement, Judge George H. Hancher (A.B. '60) closed the door of his chambers at Courtroom No. 5 in Butler County on December 19, 2007. In recent years, Judge Hancher has been one of two county judges assigned to the Criminal Division of Common Pleas Court and handled a range of legal cases, from divorce and child custody to civil suits to criminal cases of all magnitudes. Judge Hancher looks forward to more free time with his family and doing things such as traveling, maintaining the family farm, and restoring antique vehicles. He is also looking forward to reinvigorating his private law practice with his wife, Darla, who also is an attorney.
