Davis Polk & Wardwell senior counsel and professor of law M. Carr Ferguson, Jr. AB '52, LL.B '54, received the 2008 Distinguished Service Award from the American Bar Association's section of taxation at the section's May meeting in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes Professor Ferguson's ''outstanding service to the legal profession, the tax system, and tax education.'' ABA tax section chair Stanley L. Blend cited Prof. Ferguson as having the ''unique ability to provide advice and counsel to reform efforts and strategies to increase efficiencies in tax systems.'' Prof. Ferguson practiced as a partner in the tax department of Davis Polk for 20 years before becoming senior counsel in 2001.
