Biography
Diogo Magalhaes rejoined Cornell Law School in September 2020 as a Visiting Lecturer of Law for the Master of Science in Legal Studies and and also serves as the Faculty Director of that program. Having earned his Doctor of the Science of Law at Cornell University and having served as a Law Fellow at Cornell Law School, he has been a dedicated member of the Cornell community for several years.
Diogo has taught Law at Cornell Law School, Chicago-Kent School of Law, Freie Universität Berlin, and the Catholic University of Portugal’s School of Law in Lisbon. Among other courses, Diogo has taught Conflicts of Law; International Trade Law; Introduction to Business and Financial Concepts; European Union Law; European And International Business and Contract Law; and Law, Markets and Globalization. He has also developed experience and expertise in online education and asynchronous learning and has developed numerous online courses and support materials and tools for his students.
While completing his doctorate, Diogo worked on issues of pro-social corporate governance. He also helped to create and to launch the non-profit Ethical Shareholder Initiative and worked as a consultant on this innovative project. Exploring new paradigms within ethical and sustainable corporate governance have become his main research interests.
Diogo holds a J.S.D. degree, as well as an LL.M. and bachelor’s degree in Law. Before pursuing Law, he worked for more than five years in customer service and in business and people management for a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary, developing project management tools, identifying and monitoring KPIs, and providing forecasting and trending analysis, among other responsibilities.
