James HuAdjunct Professor of Law
James Hu is a corporate partner in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP and has broad transactional experience. He represents both public and private acquirers and target companies in domestic or cross-border M&A transactions and contested situations, with a focus on public company mergers, acquisitions or sales of private companies, divisional carve-outs, and joint ventures or strategic alliances.
A few notable transactions he worked on include Danaher’s $21 billion acquisition of GE’s Biopharma business, Equity One’s $15.6 billion merger with Regency Centers Corporation, Baxalta Incorporated’s $32 billion sale to Shire plc, and Micro Focus International plc’s $8.8 billion acquisition of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company’s software business. In connection with his transactional work, Mr. Hu is recognized as a notable practitioner by IFLR1000.
Before joining Kirkland & Ellis, Mr. Hu worked at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP’s New York office, practicing a wide range of corporate matters. Mr. Hu obtained his law degree from Cornell Law School, magna cum laude, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
