Join digital asset industry experts Susan Joseph, BS ’81, Managing Partner, SusanJosephLLC and Owner, Law Firm of Susan Joseph, and Barry Seeman, BS ’83, MEng ’85, MBA ’87, Founder, Bear Run Partners, who will discuss blockchain, security tokens, smart contracts and potential issues when working with clients who are contemplating the launch of a Security Token for a capital raise. This course will assist legal practitioners in understanding some of the issues and best practices surrounding this evolving marketplace.
 
Attendees will receive 1.5 NY CLE credit in the area of Skills.

Meet the Presenters:
 
 
Susan Joseph, BS ’81
Managing Partner, SusanJosephLLC and Owner, Law Firm of Susan Joseph

Susan is a JD/MBA, Managing Partner at SusanJosephLLC, (www.susangjoseph.com) a consulting firm, and owner of the Law Firm of Susan Joseph. She is a former General Counsel who has been advising and consulting in law, blockchain and fintech for the past five years. She works with startups, technology companies, and enterprise on law, blockchain, and fintech, including cryptocurrencies, enterprise digital ledgers, digital assets (including security tokens) and wallets, insurance, smart contracts, consortia, regulatory issues, policies and compliance, the intersection of law, regulation and emerging technologies, decentralized identity, privacy, open source strategies, and other issues as they occur across financial services, real estate, supply chain, insurance and humanitarian concerns.
 
She is currently the Civics Representative (regulatory and privacy interfaces) for RiskStream and was formerly the B3i North America Representative (Insurance Consortia). She created and ran Blockchain Working Groups for Global Insurers. Additionally, she was the first Executive Director of ID2020 and is a co-founder and Executive Director of Diversity in Blockchain, Inc.
 
Susan advises many companies at their early stages, publishes regularly, and frequently travels around the world to guest lecture at universities and conferences alike.
 
Susan is a Core Leader for the World Economic Forum Blockchain Projects on both Supply Chain and Consortia and is a member of their Expert Network. She is the Blockchain Editor of Insurtech360. Susan is an Advisor to BlockRe (digital asset insurance) and OneWorldIdentity (identity). Additionally, she founded and runs womeninfintech, a networking group with over 2500 members in 47 countries.
 
Susan has a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University, an MBA from Tulane University, and a JD from Pace University.
 
 
Barry Seeman, BS ’83, MEng ’85, MBA ’87
Founder, Bear Run Partners

Barry Seeman brings extensive experience in global asset management and management of sophisticated financial services operations, across derivatives management, capital markets, and investment management.
 
Barry is the founder of Bear Run Partners, a specialized consultancy firm in capital markets, asset management, blockchain and crypto-currency applications. Prior to Bear Run Partners, Barry was the Head of Global Derivatives and Hedging in the United States for AEGON Asset Management, from 2011 through July of 2017. He brings over 30 years of derivatives sales and trading, and financial products structuring experience, managing the derivatives trading and structuring unit for the global insurance companies of AEGON/Transamerica. Derivatives book ranged from $100bn to $130bn notional exposures.
 
Prior to AEGON, Barry was the Managing Director and Head of Natixis Alternative Investments (US), Inc. (2007-2011). He was responsible for both the development and management of investment products in the alternative investments space, spanning from liquid hedge funds to illiquid private equity. Barry joined Natixis after selling his company, Celestar Capital Advisors LLC, to the bank. Barry was the Co-Managing Partner of this firm, which specialized in the formation and management of alternative investment products (2003-2007).
 
Barry, from 1997 through 2003, was Co-Head and Managing Director of AXA Global Structured Products, Inc. and AXA Alternative Advisors, Inc. This risk management and asset management unit of AXA Investment Managers was responsible for the management and development of alternative investment management products for the insurance companies of AXA and external retail and institutional investors.
 
Barry also has deep experience in trading, structuring and selling complex derivative products to institutional users. From 1996 through 1997, he was the head of Financial Institutions Coverage at General Re Financial Products. From 1992 through 1996, Barry was Co-Head of Financial Institutions Coverage at Citibank. And from 1990 through 1992, Barry was head of exotic options development and trading at O’Connor and Associates, which later became Swiss Bank O’Connor.
 
He was voted into the The Volatility Investing Hall of Fame of EQDerivatives Magazine (2016).
 
Barry has a Bachelor and Masters in Electrical Engineering and a MBA from Cornell University, in Ithaca New York.
