The 2019 World Congress Against the Death Penalty took place in Brussels from February 26 to March 1. Members of the Cornell Center on the Death Penalty Worldwide were actively involved in events throughout the week. Delphine Lourtau, our Executive Director, was a panelist at a roundtable discussion on the discriminatory application of the death penalty on women. Sharon Pia Hickey, our Director of Research and Advocacy, presented our report Judged for More Than Her Crime. Professor Sandra Babcock, our Faculty Director, spearheaded an event on strategic litigation for death row prisoners. The Congress ended with a declaration reaffirming the participants’ commitment to abolishing the death penalty worldwide.
