Cornell Law School Convocation Class of 2020
As you have now learned from President Pollack’s message, convocation must take place in a different way than we had originally planned. Although our plans for May 2020 must change, we will have a convocation in Ithaca at a date to be determined in the future when public health officials deem it prudent to do so. Everyone will be invited and we will provide a virtual option for people who cannot make it back. Because COVID-19 has deprived you of so many things, we would like to hear from you about what form Convocation for the Class of 2020 should take. We will be in touch via the appropriate class listserv or FB page for your degree program in the near future with proposals and polls. We will, of course, take public health considerations into account along with your expressed preferences. Please know that whatever form the ceremony takes, we are committed to celebrating you as you transition from law student to lawyer and member of the Cornell Law alumni family.
We have finalized arrangements with Herff Jones to convert the rental regalia to “ClassKeepers”. While the material is somewhat different, all the basics will be included: Cornell Red Doctoral Gown, Law School Doctoral Hood, Tam with Gold Tassel. Those that have ordered a keep-sake tassel will also receive it in the same package. This year, the company is keeping the cost the same as the rental and is not charging additional fees to mail to your home address. The Law School will cover any additional costs for mailing to your international address. This will be the regalia that will be used for the rescheduled ceremony. Please note that the company still has to make the regalia and since it is closed due to the coronavirus, they will start shipping 6-8 weeks after their factory re-opens. Specific instructions regarding each option is listed below:
1) For those that have placed on-line orders for the rental, Herff Jones will be sending you an e-mail with a link to a questionnaire asking if you wish to convert the rental to the ClassKeeper and if yes, to provide additional information. Please be sure to provide the contact information that you check regularly and at which will respond promptly. The questionnaire will also ask if you wish to cancel your order completely and if so, will provide instructions on how to submit a cancellation request.
2) For those that did not place the rental order by the deadline and wish to place an order now for the ClassKeeper, can do so now at the Herff Jones web site. Click on "Law ClassKeeper". The deadline to order is June 1, 2020.
3) And finally, for those that do not wish to order now but prefer to do so when the date for the re-scheduled ceremony is known, Herff Jones will open up the ordering portal with sufficient time for everyone to receive their regalia in time for the ceremony.
