Justice Ali Presents on Child Marriage in Bangladesh

On September 30, 2013, the Avon Global Center for Women & Justice and Berger International Legal Studies Program hosted Supreme Court Justice Imman Ali from Bangladesh who spoke on the issue of child marriage.

Bangladesh has the third-highest rate of child marriage in the world with 68.7% of girls married before the age of 18. Its population is also among the world's most impoverished. According to Justice Ali,the two problems are intimately related. "Child marriage leads to poverty, and that poverty leads to more poverty," he asserted in his lecture.
