Telling Amy's Story Documentary Screening
On October 29, 2015, as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Avon Global Center, the Global Gender Justice Clinic, and Cornell Advocates for Human Rights hosted a screening of the documentary film, "Telling Amy's Story." Telling Amy's Story follows the timeline of a domestic violence homicide that occurred on November 8, 2001. The victim's parents and co-workers, law enforcement officers, and court personnel share their perspectives on what happened to Amy in the weeks, months, and years leading up to her death. Because the content can be difficult to absorb, the screening was followed by a debriefing by Sharon Pia Hickey, Women and Justice Fellow at the Avon Global Center for Women and Justice. After this, Global Gender Justice Clinic students Amanda Reynoso Palley and Carolina Morales shared with attendees the work that the Clinic and the Center are doing in the community to respond to domestic violence, including passing resolutions declaring freedom from domestic violence a fundamental human right.
