In many ways, the experience of students at Cornell Law mirrors a close familial relationship. In a family setting, family members know each on a deep, meaningful level and share certain bonds based upon their common experiences.
Like family members, our law students form close bonds with each other. Current students and alumni remark that this close knit community is a distinguishing feature of the Cornell Law School experience. Moreover, our students also get to know their faculty members quite well. By the time our students graduate they have often dined at the homes of faculty members, worked closely on an academic project with a faculty member or discussed in detail the upcoming season of the New York Yankees or Mets with a faculty member who is also a rabid Yankee or Mets fan.
Family members enjoy common experiences. They spend time together at dinner, on vacation and living day to day. At Cornell Law, our students spend a great deal of time together learning the law in and outside of the classroom setting and socializing together. Alumni of the law school and current students are able to instantly connect and establish a rapport because the experience of being a Cornell Law student is consistent over time.
