Law School campus in fall

Office of the Dean

Founded in 1887, we are a top-tier law school with a rare characteristic: our size. With about 600 J.D. students, Cornell Law School offers an intimate, collegial, and diverse environment in which students grow through their interactions with one another and with our dedicated and interdisciplinary faculty.

At Cornell, we provide our students with rigorous classroom training in the doctrine, theory, and skills needed to become leading members of the legal profession. Equally important to their development as lawyers are their interactions outside the classroom. Our small size and our setting in New York’s stunningly beautiful Finger Lakes region means that Cornell is a law school where our students get to know one another and make friends for life.

On this website you will meet the people who are involved in maintaining Cornell’s status as a premier legal institution. You will meet our faculty, among the most productive in the country and committed to inspiring our students in and out of the classroom. You will meet the students themselves. In addition to their own studies, they also produce numerous legal journals and organize symposia that bring top legal scholars to Myron Taylor Hall to discuss world concerns with interested members of the community. Through our Alumni site you will also meet some of our illustrious graduates and see their continued commitment to the Law School.

I encourage you to explore our website to learn why Cornell Law School is a remarkable community of scholars and students.

Sincerely,
Jens David Ohlin
Allan R. Tessler Dean and Professor of Law
