Professor Erik Hovenkamp is an economist and legal scholar focusing on antitrust; IP and innovation policy; law and economics; and industrial organization. His work has been published in many leading law reviews and peer-reviewed economics journals, including the RAND Journal of Economics, the Yale Law Journal, and the Journal of Legal Studies, among others. His research articles have received numerous awards, including the American Antitrust Institute's Jerry S. Cohen award for the best antitrust article of 2022.
Hovenkamp earned a PhD in economics and a JD, both from Northwestern University. He joined the Cornell faculty in 2024. He was previously an associate professor at the USC Gould School of Law. From 2017 to 2019, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Law School and a visiting fellow in the Information Society Project at Yale Law School.
