Biography
Robert A. MacKenzie is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law at Cornell Law School, where he directs the Entrepreneurship Law Clinic. Professor MacKenzie engages in research on issues relating to artificial intelligence in legal practice and education, corporate governance, securities regulation, administrative law, and alternative dispute resolution.
Before joining Cornell, Professor MacKenzie served as the Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP Clinical Teaching Fellow at New York University School of Law, where he co-taught the Entrepreneurship Clinic and the Social Enterprise and Economic Empowerment Clinic. Prior to entering academia, Professor MacKenzie spent several years as an associate in the Capital Markets Group at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in New York, advising public and private companies on governance, regulatory, and transactional matters across technology, biotech, financial services, and other industries.
Professor MacKenzie received his J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, and is completing an LL.M. (thesis) at McGill University Faculty of Law under a Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Scholarship. He holds a B.A. from the University of Guelph. At McGill, he served as a Senior Editor of the McGill Law Journal. Professor MacKenzie previously served as a mediator with the Osgoode Mediation Clinic, facilitating small claims and community disputes, and has coached law student teams at the INADR Law School Mediation Competition and the Canadian National Negotiation Competition. Professor MacKenzie also consults on equine law and regulatory matters involving standardbred horse racing. He is admitted to practice law in New York and Ontario.
