With the backing of the Law School, these organizations work separately and together to present workshops, seminars, panel discussions, conferences, and moot-court competitions.

In recent years, student organizations have held professional development “Career Days” in which students learn about career options, network with seasoned lawyers, and participate in mock interviews.

Additionally, the sense of community here extends well beyond the walls of the Law School. Our location within a large, Ivy League university also benefits Law School students. One such benefit is access to the large number of graduate and professional student organizations that welcome Law School students as members. Students are also encouraged to attend special events held for invited speakers and entertainers, as well as the university’s unsurpassed athletic, dining, and library facilities.

Throughout the year, the Dean of Students Office facilitates a number of programs and training sessions to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for students. These programs include new student orientation events, weekly coffee chats, a “Peer Advisor” program for 1Ls, frequent social mixers, anti-bias training for 1Ls, academic-success presentations and advice, and a faculty-student lunch program.
The Office of Career Development (which includes the Career Services Office, the Public Service Office, and the Office of Judicial Engagement and Professional Development) works in tandem over the course of the year with students on several initiatives related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- collection and distribution of information relating to employer-sponsored recruitment and/or scholarship programs
- coordinating and publicizing employer presentations on topics related to diversity and inclusion
- assisting student groups with identification of alumni and other speakers for networking, job search, and other programming
- participating as speakers in “Career Day programming” and other student-led programs
The Public Service Office serves as an informal and unofficial advisor to students about various topics, such as adjusting to law school and making career decisions. This office coordinates or advises programs, such as the Cornell Defender Program, Public Interest Law Union, and Corporate Connect.

Cornell Defender Program: Cornell undergraduates are paired with Cornell Law School students to work with a local attorney representing indigent clients in criminal and family law matters. The program includes an intensive two-week training where students discuss not only basic legal precepts, but also issues of equity, access, and fairness in the legal system.

Public Interest Law Union: This group offers opportunities for students interested in a public interest legal career to explore the diversity of career options available to them. The union also hosts public interest speaker events and provides volunteer service opportunities for members of the Law School, with a focus on student, employer, and issue diversity.

Corporate Connect: This program aims to work with students in law school to build up networking opportunities and provide resources and best practices around recruiting and career development.
