***While Cornell hasn’t restricted travel to Israel, the country is now considered an elevated-risk destination. Cornell travelers planning on going to Israel are now required to seek pre-approval from Cornell’s insurance company. The insurance pre-approval process is required for all travelers and is managed by Cornell’s Risk Management and Insurance (risk_mgmt@cornell.edu). Since the conflict started, Cornell Insurance Company, Zurich, implemented a war risk insurance coverage policy, which includes a premium fee. This war risk policy does not include security evacuation coverage, so the college or the student should pick up any evacuation costs. Other than the insurance constraints, students planning to travel to Israel are now required to submit a travel petition to ITART. The ITART Committee will review all ITART petitions to Israel.
Overall, the geopolitical security situation in the region is highly volatile and unpredictable. The conflict between Iran and Israel has the potential to spread and escalate further, causing significant instability in Israel and the entire region. For these reasons, IHSS recommends avoiding travel to Israel or any of the countries impacted by the ongoing conflict.
