Dean Lukingbeal has been an administrative dean at Cornell for a number of years. Areas of responsibility have included admissions, financial aid, student services, the LLM program, registrar's office, academic support office, career services office, and the public service office. She is currently serving as a member of the ABA's Accreditation Committee, and recently completed a term on the NALP Board of Directors. In 2005, the AALS Section on Student Services chose her for the Peter N. Kutulakis Award recognizing outstanding contributions in the service to students. In 1999 she received the Cook Award from Cornell University for her efforts on behalf of women. She was a member of the Bar Admission Committee of the Section on Legal Education from 1994-1998. In 1992 she was appointed to the ABA Standing Committee on Lawyer Competence and was a member of the committee's working group on character and fitness. She has been active in the AALS section on prelegal education and admission to law school, serving as that group's chair in 1984-85.
Dean Lukingbeal received her undergraduate degree in political science, with distinction, from Stanford University in 1972 and her J.D. from the University of California, Davis in 1975. From 1975-78 she served as a trial attorney in the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office. She is a member of the California bar, inactive status.
